how to find contentigne

Contentigne is situated just 3 kms from the historic market town of Chalus. Chalus is half way between Limoges and Perigueux on the Haute-Vienne/Dordogne border.

The small town of Chalus has several claims to fame. Not least that it was here that Richard the Lionheart was killed while trying to plunder the local coffers and laying siege to the Chateau. He was shot in the shoulder with an arrow – the wound then becoming infected. (No antibiotics in those days).

Chalus is also on the Route de Saint Jacques de Compostella.

The cottages at Contentigne are very easy to find (only one turn off the main road), and easy to recognize with their bright yellow and white shutters.

Leave Chalus on the main N21 road heading south towards Perigueux.

Carry straight on past the agricultural machinery centre on your right, and look out for the green and white railings on both sides of the road. Slow down here and signal left.

Take the small left turning marked Contentigne, and bear left around the first corner.

Carry straight along the lane, over the velo-rail bridge and straight over the country crossroads.

Our cottages are on the left – you will see the plough at the end of the drive.
